Queen Mariana in a Bright Red Dress

Mariana (also Marianna, 1635–1696) was the daughter of the later Emperor Ferdinand III and his wife Mary, one of the daughters of Philip II of Spain. Originally betrothed to the Infante Balthasar Charles, she became the second wife of her direct uncle King Philip IV in 1649 after the Infante’s death at a young age. She is the mother of the Infante Margaret, the Infante Philip Prospero and the later King Charles II of Spain.
