Madonna with Child

Since the 15th century, beginning with Italian painting, the depiction of the close relation between mother and child has been the main theme of the Madonna picture. From around 1500, Dürer created numerous representations of the Virgin Mary in drawings, graphics and painting which show both strong emotions and his sheer pleasure at reproducing studies of expression.
