around 1853/54 , Artist: Johann Erdmann Gottlieb Prestel
This picture, which was the property of the Imperial Office of the Master of the Horses, depicts the first joint ride of Emperor Francis Joseph and his bride, Princess Elisabeth in Bavaria. This took place near Bad Ischl on 21 August 1853. The young couple is sitting in a carriage called a landschützer, which is being driven by Count Grünne, a close friend of the Emperor. The landschützer, an open carriage for the country, is harnessed to six horses in the wildgang manner. In this type of harnessing, which comes from Hungary, two horses are harnessed to the shaft while four are harnessed parallel in front of them.
