Programme in three museums

Art, theatre and history for creative explorers

By experiencing, exploring, inventing, designing and crafting together, we also want to see and hear your contribution. Are you curious? Then join us!

We can hardly wait to welcome you to our summer academy!

In the Kunsthistorisches Museum, we visit the Collection of Greek and Roman Antiquities, the Egyptian and Near Eastern Collection, the Kunstkammer and the Picture Gallery to see what special clothes were worn in the past and who wore them. Who perhaps even wore no clothes at all? We take a closer look at the meaning of textiles and ask ourselves: What messages could be communicated through them? What value do fabrics have for us today, in a world where new clothes are constantly being produced?

In the Imperial Armoury you will learn about fashion made of steel - the most expensive fashion of all time. On our tour through the exhibition, you will learn how armour was made, what it was used for and who could afford such a metal garment in the first place.

You will then have the opportunity to design your own helmet or armour in the workshop! What would you like to show your friends? What are your strengths? What do you want to protect yourself from? Show what you're made of!

At the Weltmuseum Wien, everything revolves around trousers: embark on a journey through 3,000 years of trouser history - from the world's oldest trousers to the ‘trousers of the future’ - and get to know over 50 pairs of trousers from all over the world. You can expect to see trousers made from polar bear and seal fur, banana fibres, goatskin, iron and denim. Whether wrapped, buttoned, laced or with rollers - trousers were and are worn in a wide variety of ways and for a wide variety of occasions. Everything you have learnt about trousers can be incorporated into the design of your ‘future trousers’ at the end.

In the Theatermuseum, we show you extraordinary costumes from different eras - even those that no one else sees, because: We go to the depot. There we will open our wardrobe: you will find original costumes, funny and elegant headgear and lots of colourful scarves. Dress up, invent new creations and design an imaginative fashion show or develop your own theatre pieces from the characters you have created. You'll be wearing the trousers on stage!
