Back Stage: Guided tour on the roof

21. October, 9:00 a.m., Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien
Meeting point: Foyer Kunsthistorisches Museum

From the Burghauptmann to the Imperial Forum and from Wilhelminenberg Palace to Vienna's periphery. On the roof of the Kunsthistorisches Museum you will experience a magnificent view over Vienna and learn all about the beginnings of castle administration, a forerunner of modern facility management. The origins of the Imperial Forum are illuminated as well as the architectural embedding of the museum. And even some architectural secrets are revealed on this tour.

Real, false or fictitious?

3. October, 6:00 p.m., Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien
Meeting point: Foyer of the Kunsthistorisches Museum

The question of whether coins are genuine or counterfeit was probably already being asked after their inception. Since ancient times, counterfeit money has always been produced, which was not always easy to recognise or - as with the so-called Limesfalsa - could also have been a kind of emergency money. In addition, since the Renaissance there have also been invented pieces or pieces only vaguely modelled on their originals. Today, (almost) perfect forgeries are intended to deceive coin collectors. Klaus Vondrovec, Director of the Coin Cabinet, will present this very broad spectrum using a number of originals.

Curator's Tour: The European Quran

5. November, 6.30 p.m., Weltmuseum Wien
Meeting point: columned hall of the Weltmuseum Wien

What role does the Holy Scripture of Islam, the Quran, play in European intellectual history? How has it been read and understood in Europe since the first translations in the Middle Ages? These questions will be addressed in a special exhibition at the Weltmuseum Wien starting in Fall 2024. The exhibition will illustrate the diverse ways in which the Quran has been experienced, read, and interpreted in Europe.

Curator's Tour: A Glance at Pants

20. November, 6 p.m., Weltmuseum Wien
Meeting point: columned hall of the Weltmuseum Wien

Pants from the collections of the Weltmuseum Wien meet new creations by young designers from Viennese fashion schools. Together we will explore and stage the exciting significance of clothing for the lower half of the body and question stereotypical expectations of male and female clothing traditions. We will also shed light on the stories told by children's pants from different parts of the world.

Ambassador-Event

Backstage: The Emperor's Air Fountain

12. November, 6 p.m., Weltmuseum Wien
Meeting point: Entrance area of the Weltmuseum Wien

Immerse yourself in a technical and architectural masterpiece of Habsburg architecture. From Meissner's air heating system to the air fountain with its riser shafts, you can experience historical building technology adapted in a modern way.
