Judith with the Head of Holofernes

Judith is a famous example of female heroism from the Old Testament: to save the Jewish people from destruction at the hands of the Assyrians, she had guilefully won the trust of the enemy general Holofernes and cut off his head while he was asleep. With this trophy she chases off the enemy army.
