Buccherokanne mit etruskischer Inschrift

Der Name Bucchero bezeichnet eine für die Etrusker typische Keramikgattung. Sie war vor allem in der Blütezeit der etruskischen Stadtkulturen des 7. und 6. Jahrhunderts v. Chr. in Gebrauch und zeichnet sich durch ihren schwarz bis grau gebrannten Ton aus. In die bandförmige Zone unterhalb der Schulter der Kanne wurde nach dem Brand eine Inschrift in etruskischer Sprache eingeritzt. Sie ist - für das Etruskische eher unüblich - von links nach rechts geschrieben. Das Gefäß spricht selbst zu uns: "mini turuce larth : apunas velethnalas" ("mich [= das Gefäß] hat gegeben Larth Apunas, geboren von einer Velethnai [oder: aus Velethna])".
