Der Humanist Jacob Ziegler (1470/1471-1549)

Die Inschrift nennt Namen und Herkunft des Porträtierten und verweist durch ihre antikische Form auf seine Profession als humanistisch gebildeter Theologe, Mathematiker, Geograph und Astronom. Ziegler (um 1470/71 ?-1549) erhielt als Schüler von Conrad Celtis seine Ausbildung an den Universitäten von Ingolstadt und Wien und wurde später Dekan der Wiener Theologischen Fakultät. Er stand in enger Beziehung zu Erasmus von Rotterdam und neigte wie dieser der Reformation zu, ohne jedoch die katholische Kirche zu verlassen.
