Die französische Stadt Limoges bildete im 16. Jahrhundert ein europäisches Zentrum der Produktion von dekorativem Tafelgerät in der Technik des Maleremails. Die Teller und Schalen standen nicht in Gebrauch, sondern dienten der fürstlichen Repräsentation bei Festen.
