Mosaike, Sarkophage und Vasen dienten in der Antike als wichtige Bildträger, um Mythen und Göttergeschichten sichtbar zu machen. Sie vermittelten religiöse, moralische und gesellschaftliche Werte, indem sie Szenen aus dem Götter- und Heldenleben darstellten. Durch ihre dauerhafte Materialität bewahrten sie diese Mythen über Generationen hinweg und machten sie im alltäglichen wie auch im sakralen Kontext präsent.
