Muschelblasender Triton, Statuette, Bronze

Bronze statues which were archaeological finds were
very popular in the Renaissance. Small bronze figures similar to the antique
originals had been produced in Italy since the 15th century. This
one here was probably made by the bronze sculptor Niccoló Roccatagliata
(1593-1636). The fish-tailed Triton was the son of the seagod Poseidon.
