Emperor Frederick III and his Device
In 1437, the future Emperor Frederick III declared that the five letters “AEIOV” were to be used to designate his property. This allows us to link a few objects with his once magnificent treasury. The measuring instruments document the emperor’s interest both in astronomy and in the astrological interpretation it held for him.
