Lidded Cup, so-called Cup of Maximilian

Here, the typical geometrical-abstract shapes of Late Gothic lobed gadroon cups have been replaced by pears. Easily attributed to the influence of the dawning Renaissance, this naturalism is also evident in the virtuoso handling of the surmounting thistle. The lid features a coat of arms with the double eagle, which suggests the cup belonged to Emperor Maximilian I.
