Christ Carrying the Cross

When Jesus carried his cross to Golgotha, “women ran behind, weeping and lamenting. And Jesus turned to them and spoke: You daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, weep for yourselves and your children.” Directly influenced by Caravaggio, Gentileschi painted this moving moment from the Passion with solemnity and pathos.
