Der gesamte Körper der goldenen Fibel ist in feinster ornamentaler Durchbruchsarbeit (opus interrasile) gearbeitet, zusätzlich ist die Fibel in Filigran- und Granulationstechnik verziert. Die Oberseite trägt die lateinische Inschrift VTERE FELIX - "benütze sie mit Glück". Segenswünsche wie dieser finden sich in der Spätantike oft auf Schmuck oder Gebrauchsgegenständen wie beispielsweise Fingerringen, Armreifen, Fibeln, Gürtelschnallen oder Silberlöffeln. Sie sollten dem Besitzer der kostbaren Stücke zu Glück verhelfen. Die meisterhafte Ausführung sowie Technik und Art der Dekoration sprechen für eine Herstellung der Gewandschließe in einer reichsrömischen Werkstatt.
