Children´s Carriage of the Vienna court

The exquisitely designed little garden carriage shown here is the oldest children's car-riage from the Vienna court still in existence. In about 1900, this carriage was thought to have been Joseph II's children's carriage. However, since its technical and stylistic features clearly point to 1790-95 as its date of origin, it must have been built for the oldest children of Emperor Franz and was in all probability used by his daughter Marie Louise, who was born in 1791.
