Der hier gezeigte Ornat eines Ritters des Ordens vom Goldenen Vlies wurde vermutlich unter Kaiser Karl VI. nach dem Vorbild eines mittelalterlichen Ornats angefertigt. Er besteht aus einem asymmetrisch geschnittenen Radmantel aus rotem Samt, dessen reiche Goldstickerei die Ordensembleme (Widderfell, Feuereisen und Feuerstein) darstellt. Die Stickerei am Saum zeigt den Wahlspruch Karls des Kühnen "Je l'ai emprins" ("Ich habe es gewagt"). Zum Mantel, der auf der rechten Schulter gerafft wird, gehören ein Untergewand aus scharlachrotem Samt und ein Bundhut (Chaperon) mit reicher Goldstickerei, von dem ein 165 cm langes Samtband (Cornette) herabfällt.
