Black Court Dress of Empress Elisabeth
around 1885 | Fanni Scheiner
This magnificent dress of black silk moiré with lace trim and rich jet-bead embroidery has remained entirely in its original state. Thus it provides impressive evidence of the empress’s tall, slender figure and her unbelievably narrow, longitudinally oval “Viennese wasp waist”. This was kept as a precious memento by the imperial house and finally came to the Kunsthistorisches Museum in 1962. (MKR)
