The Birth of Christ

about 1520, Artist: Joos van Cleve

The Birth of Christ

Perhaps this picture is a free variation on an older work. That might explain the oldfashioned composition, which is reminiscent of an early picture by Gerard David. The Christ child is surrounded by a halo of light, but no attempt has been made to create a nocturnal scene.

Location: Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien, Kabinett 17
