late 5th Dynasty, ca. 2400 BC, From Giza, tomb of Kai-pu-ptah
In this typical dyad, the man is shown striding slightly forward while the woman’s feet are side by side. Specialists do not agree about the meaning of the objects he holds in his hands; some describe them as emblematic staffs. The names of the man and woman are written on the base but their relationship remains unclear.
