nach 1479, Artist: Hugo van der Goes
To the left in the far-off landscape of paradise, the Fall of Man is depicted, to the right the Lamentation of Christ in front of the bare hill where Jesus was crucified. In its highly detailed reproduction of trees, herbs and precisely observed figures, the left wing recalls the art of Jan van Eyck. The right-hand panel, in contrast, with its emotional facial expressions and sudden movement of Mary and John, which is echoed in the vivid, many-creased folds of the robes, adheres to the expressive tradition found in the works of Rogier van der Weydens.
