Das Wiener Fragment mit den Köpfen zweier älterer, einander zugewandter bärtiger Männer stammt vom Nordfries des Parthenon in Athen und gehört zur Gruppe der so genannten Thallophoren - würdige Bürger, die mit Olivenzweigen in den Händen an der Prozession teilnehmen. Die genaue Position des Fragmentes innerhalb des Frieses ist durch Zeichnungen des französischen Künstlers Jacques Carrey bekannt, der im Jahre 1674 Detailstudien des Parthenon anfertigte, ehe wenig später, 1687, die Venezianer unter Francesco Morosini einen Großteil des Tempels bei einer Belagerung der Stadt zerstörten.
