Die Altgambe SAM 70 ist Teil des Gamben-Consorts von Antonio Ciciliano, das aus der Sammlung der Familie Obizzi stammt. Die Dynastie der Obizzi galt als musikliebend und förderte die Künste. So ließ diese Familie auf Schloss Catajo ein großzügiges Theater errichten und sammelte Musikinstrumente des täglichen Gebrauchs sowie exzeptionelle Kunstobjekte. Die Gamben von Ciciliano dürften zu den Gebrauchsinstrumenten gezählt haben, wie einige Reperaturen verraten. Neueste dendrochronologische Untersuchungen ergaben, dass das Holz der Decke dieses Instruments in eine sehr frühe Zeit - bereits nach 1387 - datiert werden kann. (rh)
