Auf dem kartuschenähnlichen Schildchen findet sich auf geschwärztem Punktgrund, vergoldet die Figur des Herkules, der die beiden Säulen - die Felsen von Gibraltar und Ceuta - trägt. Dies ist die Symboldarstellung Karls V., die verbunden mit seiner Devise "plus ultra" nichts anderes aussagen sollte, als "darüber hinaus" - nämlich über Gibraltar, die westliche Grenze der Alten Welt hinaus. Zu welcher Harnischgarnitur das Schildchen gehörte, ist bisher nicht bekannt.
