Unusual Insights into the Picture Gallery

In 2012 the Picture Gallery began a new series of small exhibitions entitled “Points of View”. Each showcases an unusual painting in the Picture Gallery that is rarely displayed for lack of hanging space, or that has been the focus of recent research.

„Point of View #5“ focuses on Bernardino Licinio’s Portrait of the Venetian Nobleman Ottaviano Grimani and takes a closer look at aristocratic entertainments in 16th century Venice: to celebrate the founding of the Compagnia della Calza dei Sempiterni – the “Society of the Stocking” – the young nobleman had himself portrayed in 1641 wearing sumptuous attire.
