Joannis Avramidis
To celebrate his 90th birthdayIn September 2012, Joannis Avramidis celebrates his 90th birthday. He focused the human body and its structure in paintings and sculpture during his many years (both as a student and as a teacher) at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. His interest in the classical art of the 5th century B.C. and in the early Renaissance led Avramidis to design bodies that conform to a strict constructivist principle.
In honour of Joannis Avramidis the Kunsthistorisches Museum is showning a selection of his sculptures and graphic work in the Collection of Greek and Roman Antiquities where they enter into a dialogue with the classical originals.
