Treasury
Visit the world’s greatest treasury and discover priceless jewels and insignia from a thousand years of European history. On display in this oldest part of the Hofburg in Vienna (13th century) are not only the crown of the Holy Roman Empire (c. 962) and the Crown of Emperor Rudolf II., which later on became Crown of the Austrian Empire (1602), but also several fantastic treasures from the 15th century “Burgundian Inheritance” and the remarkable treasure of the Order of the Golden Fleece. In addition, there are many legendary objects from the Habsburg collections including a 2.5 metre-long “unicorn horn”, and the so-called Holy Lance.
The Ecclesiastical Treasury contains relics, liturgical vessels and garments that testify to the piety of the Habsburgs. The entrance to the Treasury is situated in the Schweizerhof (Swiss Court); its name a reminder of the Swiss Guards once posted here.
