Ecstasy of St. Teresa of Ávila
The clay relief shows the ecstatic vision of St. Teresa of Ávila, which she experienced during prayer: an angel appears, who strikes her heart with the arrow of divine love. The composition is modelled on a marble group of the same subject, which the most famous sculptor of the Roman high Baroque, Gianlorenzo Bernini, created around 1650 for the church of Santa Maria della Vittoria.
