Fury

ca. 1610/20, Artist: Furienmeister

Fury

The ivory carver received his provisional name from this statuette, which demonstrates the characteristics of his distinctive style in its exceptional expressivity, dynamism, and the virtuous treatment of the surface. The creations of the Master of the Furies are singular among Baroque ivorywork. He was likely active for the Prince-Bishop of Salzburg, but nothing is known about his life.

Location: Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien, Kunstkammer Wien Raum XXII
