Heroische Kampfdarstellungen waren ein beliebtes Thema in der Antike, das Motiv des Herakles, der einen Kentauren am Huf gepackt hat, ist jedoch außergewöhnlich. Die Rundbasis als oberer Abschluss des knorrigen Baumstamms weist auf die Verwendung als luxuriöser Kandelaber hin. Die Zugehörigkeit des Baumes ist jedoch nicht gesichert, da die originale Basis sowie einige weitere Teile der Statuette nicht erhalten sind. Diese wurden nach der Auffindung der Gruppe Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts ergänzt.
