Das Porträt des Philosophen Aristoteles entspricht nicht dem standardisierten Porträt des "typischen Philosophen" mit langem Bart, wie er sonst bekannt ist, sondern zeigt einen sehr individuellen Kopf mit Alterszügen und schütterem Haar sowie mit Falten, die ihm eine "Denkerstirne" verleihen; ein kurzer Bart rahmt das Gesicht.
Das Bildnis geht vielleicht auf die Statue zurück, die der Bildhauer Lysipp auf Geheiß Alexanders des Großen gefertigt hat; Aristoteles war eine Zeit lang Lehrer Alexanders und wurde von diesem sehr geschätzt.
