12th Dynasty, ca. 1929-1877 BC, Fundort unbekannt

Seated statue of Sebek-em-inu

Statues of non-royal individuals could also be set up in temples. Offerings presented to the deity of a temple benefited such statues – and through them, their donor – by the process of ‘reversion’. Sebek-em-inu who commissioned this statue of himself bore the title ‘steward’. The inscription on the base mentions members of his family.
