22nd Dynasty, reign of Osorkon I, 910–896 BC, presumably from Lower Egypt
The sphinx depicts Osorkon I, son of the founder of the 22nd Dynasty with its capital in the delta at Bubastis. The face of the king, who wears the nemes-headcloth with uraeus-serpent and a king’s beard, is idealized. Osorkon’s name in a cartouche is inscribed seven times at various places on the lion’s body.
