Portrait of a Young Man

1506, Artist: Hans Burgkmair d. Ä.

Portrait of a Young Man

Hans Burgkmair became the principal artist of Renaissance painting in Augsburg. This early portrait, however, is still a type of late-Gothic, middle-class German portraiture. The monochrome background and the positioning of the young man within a narrow, window-like frame focuses our view on his head and hands.
