Peasants Playing Skittles

about 1655, Artist: Jan Steen

Peasants Playing Skittles

In contrast to most of Steen’s pictures, which are dominated by the lively action of a group of densely placed figures, here the dominant feature is the landscape with groups of small figures strewn across it. The anecdotal character of this genre scene is unmistakable nonetheless.
