54 Spielkarten des "Ambraser Hofjagdspieles" Umkreis: Konrad Witz | um 1440/1445
This set of cards depicts courtly falconry. The "suits" are chosen accordingly. The falcon is represented as a hunting bird of prey, the silver heron as prey. The dog retrieves the wounded heron, and the bait entices the falcon to return to his master. The vivid rendering of dramatic scenes on some cards and even more a remarkable series of landscapes characterize this game of cards. The immediacy of the nature scenes and a feeling for light and composition combine with stylistic idiosyncrasies of the new trend towards realistic depiction. Stylistically, many details point to Konrad Witz from Basle. |
